Segestria florentina  (Rossi, 1790)

Description
Male

Palp : the embolus is shorter than in S. senoculata, and not bifurcal. Palp with blunt tip of bulbus. Prosoma black. Sternum red-brown to dark brown-black. Metatarsus I laterally with one pair of spines. Opisthosoma black, sometimes appearing grey due to bright hairs.

Body length male: 10-15 mm
Female

Sternum reddish-brown to dark brown, as coxa. Clypeus as wide as or wider than diameter of anterior lateral eyes. Chelicerae with a metallic green sheen. Leg I black, legs II, III and IV reddish-brown, without annulations in adults, metatarsus I with one short median ventral spine at apex, one pair of ventrolateral spines, and close to the pair a single median spine. Opisthosoma: in adults, uniform blackish-brown with a purplish sheen, dorsally a lobed band scarcely distinct, in juveniles the opisthosoma is lighter and the dorsal band much more distinct.

Body length female: 14-22 mm
Additional information

Juveniles of S. florentina look like adults of S. bavarica. In forests, under barks and stones, rock crevices, stone walls, semi-dry grasslands, littoral, under shingle, in houses.
